What is VoiceXML?
VoiceXML is an XML language that is designed for creating audio dialogs that feature synthesized speech, digitized audio, recognition of spoken and DTMF key input, recording of spoken input, telephony and mixed-initiative conversations. VoiceXML differs from previous dialog languages in that it is a W3C standard and brings the advantages of web-based development and content delivery to interactive voice applications. Read more about VoiceXML on the Voice Browser Activity page at the W3C.

We have put together a complete set of resources to help you get started!

Tools Available on the Nuance Café
File Management Upload, delete, and activate VoiceXML documents and other VoiceXML resources such as grammars and audio prompts.
VoiceXML Checker Check whether your VoiceXML is well formed and valid.
Vocal Player Replay all incoming calls to your developer account. This tool is especially useful to understand how your application is being used by callers.
Log Browser Examine historical trace logs for every call into your developer account. Trace logs provide flow, event and variable trace as well as performance and recognition info useful for debugging.
Vocal Debugger Step through the flow of your VoiceXML application, pause when needed, and view the state of your application variables.
Trace Tool Examine real-time trace output during a call. Trace logs provide flow, event and variable trace as well as performance and recognition info useful for debugging.
Vocal Scripter Test your application without having to call in. Through a text emulation interface, you can type in input and view output.
Grammar Compiler Pre-compile grammars. There is a size limit of 150 KB for grammars when compiled during a call. With this tool you can compile grammars of larger sizes.
Port Estimator Estimate the number of ports you need to support a given quality of service.
